Last-minute Angel Tree sponsors needed
The Angel Tree program is well underway and most of the angels have been adopted. There are still, however, a few angels on the trees and the presents are due this Thurs, Nov 27. If you have been meaning to choose an angel from the tree, please do so soon. We want to make certain that all our little angels have something for Christmas. Please register the number on the back with Cecelia.Dirksen@ufv.ca Thank you so much!

Got news? Share it with the UFV Insider
Have a new baby? A new grandchild? A new academic credential? Or are you new at UFV and wanting to introduce yourself to the university community? The Marketing and Communications team is planning a late fall edition of the UFV Insider e-newsletter and we are seeking interesting news items, photos, and story ideas.
The Insider is designed to let UFV employees learn more about each other and our departments, and to celebrate achievements. We are also planning for UFV’s 2009 community report, which is sent to all households in the Fraser Valley, so feel free to pass story ideas along for that too.

Thurs — Poet Sonnet L’Abbé to read at UFV
 |
|
Sonnet L’Abbé
| The aptly named poet Sonnet L’Abbé will visit UFV’s Abbotsford bookstore on Thursday, Nov 27, from 2–3 pm.
L’Abbe’s poetry tackles issues of homeland security, cultural sensitivity, and Canadian identity in a casual, sardonic tone that has won over audiences across the country. In the wake of Obama’s US electoral win, her savvy take on international racial politics resonates more than ever.
L’Abbé is a Toronto-born writer of French-Canadian/Guyanese/South Asian descent. She is the author of two collections of poetry, A Strange Relief (2001) and Killarnoe (2007), both published by McClelland and Stewart. In 2000, she won the Bronwen Wallace Memorial Award for most promising writer under 35. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in English literature at the University of British Columbia.
Her work has appeared in a number of literary journals and several anthologies including Open Field: 30 Contemporary Canadian Poets and Red Silk: An Anthology of South Asian Canadian Women Poets.
This afternoon of literature is sponsored in part by the Canada Council and presented by the UFV English department.
Thurs, Nov 27, 2–3 pm Abbotsford campus bookstore

Thurs — The Power of Forgiveness after Tragedy presentation Come hear a powerful and riveting story of how, in the aftermath of the tragic murder of his son, a father was able to forgive the young man who shot him. This event features Dale Lang, father of Jason Lang, who was shot and killed at school in Taber, Alberta, a week after the Columbine shooting in 1999. In the aftermath of that tragedy, Dale and Dianne Lang made national headlines when they publicly acknowledged that they would forgive the perpetrator. Dale’s story is provocative and compelling. This week is Restorative Justice Week in Canada. In honour of the week, the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association are co-sponsoring this presentation. Thurs, Nov 27 11:30 am–1pm Abby, A232 Bring your lunch and join us for this important event. Space is limited so come early.
If you have any questions please contact Terry Waterhouse at terry.waterhouse@ufv.ca.
